Birds of Kentucky: Cockerel at Circle R

2012-07-23 - 712 Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Once as ubiquitous as house stars are today, only a few structures today are crowned with a Weathervane (Wikipedia) as this one at the Columbia's famed Circle R Restaurant is, seen here from the al fresco dining area in the front of the building. Unlike so many Adair County places of interests, the rooster weathervane at the Circle R may only be no more than 2nd Most Famous in Kentucky. The Dundee Goat in Ohio County may be conceded first place in this category of superlatives, but 2nd Place is pretty good.

Scenic Adair Co., KY: Pleas Edwards marking place, new Ky 61

2012-07-22 - KY 61 S., Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. One place a pretty scene was made more beautiful - with a view from behind rather than in front, is at the old Pleas Edwards place near Santa Fee Baptist Church, especially in the afternoon sun, as above. The photo is taken from the stretch of highway opened this past week toward old KY 61, now in transition from Burkesville Road to Wheeler hill Road. The Edwards son, Houston "Hootie" Edwards became a Jamestown Hill Gang member after moving to Heskamp Street from this location - sometime in the late 40's-early 50's. The private passageway in the center of the photo is, as yet, unnamed.
