Favorite Old Poster: Columbian Theatre Calendar 1969

2012-08-03 - Columbia, KY - Photo from collection of Dean Quinn.
Dean Quinn of Columbia, KY
shares this photo of a pristine copy of the Columbian Theatre's September 1969 show calendar. The calendar carries the name of one of the all time great exhibitors in Adair County's storied movie history, the late Charles Marshall, at one of Kentucky's greatest ever movie palaces and one of the few still around. Members of Charles Marshall's family, including ticket box manager Yvonne Marshall, and daughter Mikki, kept a friendly, welcoming show hall. It was also where then rising star Robert Flowers, soon to be CEO emeritus of the Bank of Columbia, got his start in businesss as the popcorn manager. Of course, the rest of the story is that Robert and Mikki dated, married, and lived happily ever after - to this day. And an aside, the calendar above were probably distributed in Columbia by Ralph Roy Waggener and/or me, Ed Waggener, along with the Sunday paper, then a big deal, too, for an extra $5-6 for most of the entire town. -EW
