Planning underground utilities for new elementary school

2012-08-07 - Adair County School District Campus, off Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Larry Smith. Superintendent Alan W. Reed, center talks with construction officials about buried utility lines for the new elementary school now under construction. Plans have been changed from the original plans to include the buried lines. Jonathan Smith, Project Construction Manager for Branscum Construction Company is in the upper left corner of the photo. In the hardhat is Terry Loy with Branscum Construction. The woman by the truck is Susan Honaker with Branscum Construction. Ricky Bault, Director of Maintenance for the Adair County School District is in the center foreground. And, in the lower left is Katherin Menk with the firm of Shrout-Tate-Wilson, consulting engineers. On the right, with the coffee cup, is Gabe Jones with the architectural firm for the project, Sherman-Carter Barnhardt of Lexington, KY. The site of the school is in the "elbow" of the Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass. The school will likely have an address number based on the name of that road - which will likely come as a recommendation from the superintendent and board of education for approval of the 911 Addressing and Mapping Coordinator, Justin Bailey, with formal approval from the Columbia City Council.

Jan Overstreet, Mackie Jo Pennington on stage again

2012-08-06 - 6470 Burkesville Road, in the Flatwoods - Photo by Jaime Baker.
Jan Overstreet, center and Mackie Jo Pennington entertained a group which stayed way past closing time Sunday night, August 5, 2012, in the Gold Room at the Flatwoods Diner, while Matt Baker, left, produces the show. The vocalists, favorites with Columbia's Dream Depot company, were singing a Miranda Lambert song. The diner always has an open mic for aspiring performers or, in this case, accomplished ones, as Dream Depot devotees well know. -CM

Kentucky Color - Great Blue Heron teenager

2012-08-06 - Crocus Creek, Amandaville, Cumberland Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Judging from the markings this is a Great Blue Heron teenager that was fishing in Crocus at Hopewell Acres recently. The Great Blue Heron is almost always by himself when he is feeding. They never hang out with any of their friends except when breeding and nesting. You might see other birds close by but usually not another Great Blue. - Billy Joe Fudge

Looks like the Bicentennial in 1967. The barefooted fellow looks like my friend Clinton Kelly - BILL COLLINS.
