Replaced valve shows one big water loss situation

2012-08-10 - Grandview, 640 Watertower Bypass, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Columbia/Adair Utilities District
General Manager Lennon Stone showed a section of line and metering valve which was replaced in the Russell Road section of water lines. The valve had been leaking approximately 5,000 gallons of water a month, according to David Bowles of Monarch Engineering, the board's consulting engineer. The utility replaced the unit which is its responsibility, but Stone warned, the line from the metering valve into the user's water system may be just as bad, and could result in some customer's water to show only a high degree of improvement. Because of this, Stone said, there can still be off-color water, but the interior lines will be the customer's responsibility. The photo was taken at the Thursday, August 9, 2012, regular meeting of the District. Also in the photo, clockwise, are Board Member Tim Baker, Back to camera, foreground, Board Attorney Marshall Loy, and Board Member Rudy Higginbotham. All board members were present, including Chairman Robert Flowers, and members David Jones and Barry Stotts.
