Three USBC Bowling Champs from Adair County

2012-08-17 - Corbin, KY - Photo by Betsy Fausnaugh.
Bowling Champions
- There are three 3, U.S.B.C. Bowling Champs in our county now. Kendra Kulac, right photo an 8th grader at Adair County Middle School, came in 4th in division 7 for girls at the Kentucky State Youth tournament held earlier this year in Corbin KY. Garrett Fausnaugh, left in left photo and Alex Kulac, right in left photo came in 3rd in the division 4 Doubles competition. Garrett also placed 10th in boys singles, division 3 and Alex was 13th in boys singles, division 2 , respectively. Garrett finished 15th overall in his division and Alex finished 10th overall in his division. I'm thinking it's time Adair county High school had a bowling team! The USBC actually has funds available for the schools to start such teams! What do you think? Betsy Fausnaugh

Casey Jones & Bar X Boys, 1939

2012-08-17 - Columbia, KY - Photo submitted by Mike Watson. "Enjoyed the recent photo on CM of Casey Jones and wife in costume," Mike Watson writes. Here is a scan of a 1939 Adair County News article and photo on the Bar X Boys that was reprinted in The Daily Statesman in 1983. Photo is poor, at best, but the members were identified, left to right, as: David Ackman (click read more: name should be "David Akeman," and that adds a great significance to the photo. Click Readmore for JIM's surprising clarification), Gordon Kelsay, Casey Jones, Clyde Royse and Hollis Keltner."

Scenic Adair Co., KY: The G G G - three Gee's on basket

2012-08-17 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Old Coddger. Courthouse Spire: Decoration can be what we want them to be. Old Coddger writes: "I read the article where there is some concern as to the 6s on top of the old courthouse. I remembered that I had taken some pictures of this a couple years back and thought I would send this along for all to see. I can see where from the ground it does look like sixes, but when viewed closer, they can be seen as Gs, or maybe just a decoration. I really think it is the eye of the beholder. They can be what we want them to be "- OC. Thanks OC Almost everyone in the world thinks they are merely a decoration. But then, there are folks who see pornography in cloud formations. - CM
