What IS up ahead? Not a miniature Amish buggy
2013-11-09 - Sano Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It almost looks like a dwarf horse drawn conveyance but really it's just Gary Rose on his ICE recumbent trike - which has a whole nuther from behind. Don't know the average speed of an Amish Buggy, but Gary was clocked here doing over 20 mph. He was trying to catch up with his wife, Diane up ahead, already on Oak Grove Road. Rose & wife, with accomplices Gerald Holt and Dave Grigsby, have made Adair County and major Kentucky epicenter for cycling. - EW

Powell Creek Bridge is complete
2013-11-09 - Clear Springs Road, District 2, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It's a beauty. The Bridge over Powder Creek on Clearsprings Road in Daryl Flatt's Magisterial District 2 is now open, and it's a beauty. The bridge was built by the Adair County Road Department - the 18th (or is it 19) built in the Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton's tenure. Upgrading roads, maintaining roads, and building bridges seems so routine now that it's sometimes difficult to wrap one's mind around the fact that almost 25% of Adair County's 80-some bridges have been replaced during Ann's administrations. The next bridge set for replacement is over Cabin Creek, on Old Montpelier Road, in Sammy Baker's District 3. The photo above was taken Friday, November 8, 2013. - EW

Fresh Greens at the Farmers Market today
2013-11-09 - Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage. Crisp greens and lettuces and fresh eggs are available at Darrell Bunnell's Coview Farms booth this morning at the Farmers Market on the Square, open for the last time this season from 8am-12noonCT, Saturday, November 8, 2013. Looks like everything needed - with grits and/or cornbread - for a complete dinner. If anyone has a recipe they would use on "Iron Chef" using these ingredients - and of course it's a give you're allowed to go to your smokehouse and cut off all the ham and ham fat needed for seasoning; any fool knows that - why we'd love to share it an episode of Epicurean Kentuckian. Submit using the "Comments" button with this photo. - CM
