Plow Day 2013 at Bennie Burton Farm - The whole cast
2013-11-18 - Bennie Burton Road, Ozark, Adair County, KY - Photo by Themie Shepherd. There was quite a group of people who showed up to take part in Plow Day, held for the first time in Adair County on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the picturesque farm owned by Bennie Burton, on Bennie Burton Road of Keen Wilson Road, in Ozark, Adair County, KY. Among those in the photo, above, in no particular order are: Bennie Burton, Vernon White, Roy Morgan, Eddie Cople, Hank Rapier, Larry and Cody Burton Phillip Burton, and some womenfolk, and others whose names we hope will be sent during the day. It was a beautiful day for the event, and Vernon White cooked some of the best chili I ever ate. - Themie Shepherd, Russell Springs, KY

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Old School at Bridgeport, KY
2013-11-18 - Eastern Metcalfe Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Pretty preservation: Mom was so proud that this school building is still preserved at Bridgeport in Eastern Metcalfe County. It's a classic one-room building, on an authentic rock pillar foundation. The building stands next to Elmview United Methodist Church. And it's framed, in the photo above, by one of the most beautiful Eastern Red Cedars in this area. Mom was quite sure - and proud - that her native county, Metcalfe, is doing a better job of keeping this treasures than in Adair County, but then, this place was in Adair County until 1860. - LW

Scenic Adair Co., KY: Burley in the barn
2013-11-18 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. It's still a beautiful sight, and, hanging in the barn on a gloomy, late fall day, it's a reminder of all it was when many of us were kids. Nothing heralded Christmas like a little - by today's standards - barn full of burley. It a dad and perhaps a tenant going off to Horse Cave, Glasgow, or Greensburg, KY and coming back with money, and tales of poundage and prices and grading and friends met. Today, few farm kids would know a lug from a tip, much less the grades in between.
