2014 CWC Home Tour: Mike and Thelma Robertson home
2013-12-01 - 105 Mason Lane, Columbia, KY< - Photo by George Kolbenschlag. Mike and Thelma Robertson Home 105 Mason Lane, Columbia, KY -
The home of Mike and Thelma Robertson is a 30 year old restored ranch house that has been totally refurbished and redecorated by the owners. It is a lovely blend of modern and rustic decor which is noted by the unique use of barn wood for accent touches throughout the house and a replica of a barn door between the office and the laundry room. The kitchen is new, totally efficient and beautifully decorated. Many antique pieces are throughout the home and blend in beautifully with the modern styles of furnishings. The lower level is finished for a recreation room with a sleeping area and is decorated in a rustic western theme. It opens to a beautiful pool area in the rear. This home has many interesting appointments and is a must see for the Home Tour. - GEORGE KOLBENSCHLAG

2014 CWC Home Tour: Chuck Rogers Home
2013-12-01 - 202 South High Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by George Kolbenschlag. Chuck Rogers Home - 202 South High Street, Columbia, KY - This house, owned by Chuck Rogers who completely renovated it in 1995, has served as home for many families since before the Civil War. As you tour this home you will see art of all sorts - especially wonderful paintings, sculptures and furnishings. There are Christmas trees with unique ornaments Chuck has collected when traveling - one features ornaments (toys) that were favorites of Chuck's Dad, the late Tommy Rogers. Furnishings and furniture keep family memories, as well as preserve heritage of the past. Ascend and marvel at the staircase built of chestnut wood. Here, one of the four bedrooms features the brass bed in which Alta Barbee Garnett was born over one hundred years ago. Music from the 1895 rosewood concert grand piano played by talented Bobby Lee will make your visit really special. Chuck says he is blessed by the grace of God and owes all to the hard work and sacrifice of his parents and family. When you visit, you will be given a list of unique items, too many to mention here, to look for as you tour through this home.

Pine Cone brings thoughts of Christmas
2013-12-01 - Gentry Mill Road, East Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Saw this natural Christmas Decoration on Gentry Mill Road on one of my husband Ed's famous "short cuts" from Columbia to Russell Springs, KY on Saturday. the short cut only took us an extra half hour or so. The pines lighted by morning sunshine reminded me of Christmas and reminded Ed of pine nuts. We haven't found research that shows pine cones can supply pine nuts for the kitchen but Ed says he bets one of the Farmers Market Gardeners could find a way to cultivate the Mediterranean kind here. In any case, won't it be nice when the Farmers' Market is open all year long including holiday times with Christmas Foods and high tunnel grown fresh Christmas tomatoes? And select cuttings of ornamental pine cones like this one and bags of Mistletoe and real, Adair County grown Cedar Christmas trees? I thinks so. -- Linda.

Santa had rocking chair in sleigh at Columbia Christmas parade
2013-12-01 - Photo by Forest Harvey. "When I was around seventeen months of age they took me to the Christmas parade in Columbia. Santa Claus was part of the parade and in his sleigh was a red child's rocking chair that I fell in love with. Either that chair, above or one like it was under our Christmas tree that year. I still have it today seventy seven years later. When I was young I rocked in it by the hour but I have not rocked in it for a LONG time." - FOREST F. HARVEY
