Traffic is safer: Stop & Caution light up at Hudson/Burkesville Streets
2013-12-05 - Hudson Street at Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. - Photo by CM staff. Ultra observant safety watchdog Billy Joe Fudge publicized the absence of the stop and caution light at this intersection and this morning, Thursday, December 5, 2013, he was the first to report that the light is back on, that crews from Somerset were busy making things right. The photo was taken some eight hours after a CM staff photographer was dispatched by Mr. Fudge to confirm the good news. Looks good. - CM

Christmas Lights 2013: It Christmas time in the city
2013-12-05 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. There are plenty of Christmas Lights Downtown in anticipation of the official start of the Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce Christmas in Columbia events, during which a gorgeously decorated tree, carrying out the same snowflake motif of the street decorations on Greensburg Street - like the one on the streetlight standard at right - will come alive with lights in the Fountain Plaza. The tree was furnished, put in place and anchored and decorated by the Columbia Christian Church. - LINDA

Epicurean Kentuckian: Chocolate Pie with sky high meringue
2013-12-05 - 104 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Leticia Paris. The Sky High Meringue may make one nostalgic for Angel's Cafe, of Elaine & Trilby years, or Kay Burton's confections, or most likely, the pies your mother made. This one was baked by Tish Paris at TaP's, who thought, rightly so, it merited hanging in the Epicurean Kentuckian gallery of yumptious desserts. She had a hard time deciding between the chocolate one she made and a sky high butterscotch twin peak of pie.

Another victim - a killed sign - on Columbia Square
2013-12-05 - Public Square at Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A tractor-trailer truck knocked over the stop sign at the Greensburg Street entrance to the Square. The truck didn't stop, but one would assume that the driver just moved to a place where he/she could call in and report the incident and pay for the damage. The incident occurred at around 11amCT, Thursday morning, in front of God the whole town including Charles Grimsley and me. Some of the Downtown People didn't see it, but most heard it. - Ed Waggener
