Scenic Adair Co., KY: Contrailed Skies
2014-01-04 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A number of people have commented on the patterns and scope of the contrails in the morning sky. Whether one is agnostic on the subject, conspiracy minded, or just wants answers, the effect of these unnatural cirrus clouds is being studied by all. Even science writers from Nova, the public television series queston contrails' effects on the environment. See Nova: The Contrail Effect. The photo above was taken at around 8:30amCT, Saturday, January 4, 2014. We don't know what to make of the giant elfen Abraham Lincoln Angel hovering over this side of Columbia. Probably nothing. - CM

Life in the Holler: Nine degrees. Who cares?
2014-01-03 - The Holler, Old Clearspring Roads, Ozark, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne. Six year old Molly, who appears to have just gotten plumb tuckered out surfing the web with her iPad, didn't have a care in the world on the coldest day we've seen in the Holler in a coon's age. Even the racket in the unbalanced cat and dog fight - one cat and the three outside dogs, Fido, Jack and Buford, didn't disturb her slumber. - SHAMARIE

Historic Adair County Courthouse: Stained glass windows
2014-01-03 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener, CM Photo. The same sky which gave Roseland Plantation it's rosy backdrop also gave the historic Adair County Courthouse natural stained class windows, as pretty as those in any cathedral. From snippets of information, there is rosy outlook for the courthouse this year, as many of the long laid plans seem to be coming together, with some still secret major tenants a possibility. Can say no more, except it's a reminder of the (1950s?) slogan, "Columbia, the City with a Rosy Future." The other 20th Century Slogan, "Columbia, Comtemplated Population 4,200," came true a long time ago - through economic opportunity creation as well as procreation, the city zoomed past that lofty population figure years ago. Treacherous roadway on East 80
2014-01-03 - Russell Creek Westhill, KY 80 - Photo by Larry Smith, The WAVE, FM 92.7 radio. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, and the Adair County Sheriff's Office is watching traffic on the WAVE Studio side of Russell Creek Hill, but this photo shows just how treacherous the roadways are today, especially in places like this cliff-shaded roadway on the eastbound lane on the western rise. Adair County Deputy Sheriff B.J. Bray is at the top of the hill, warning traffic. iPhone pictuetaken at approximately 8:20amCT. - LARRY SMITH, FM 92.7 the WAVE, en route to sausaage and biscuit time, in sunny Russell Springs, KY.
