Line Fence Tree more than 60 years old.
2014-02-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Shirley Jones. Line fence more than 60 years old. I can remember as a child hunting dry land fish in this woods belonging to my Grandmother Annie Cheatham next to Bill Murrell. Dad (Wilburn Cheatham) and my Grandmother ran this line fence on the trees. They were there, so why not use them as a post? - Shirley Jones

Scenic LaRue County, KY: Ice on lake at Mt. Sherman
2014-02-05 - Mt. Sherman, KY - Photo by Lindsay Durbin. The ice was thin on the near side of the lake, but much thicker near the center. Lindsay Durbin doubts it was thick enough to walk or skate on or do some Minnesote still fishing through the ice. She did test it by throwing a large rock on the heaviest ice and it didn't break. The lake is fine for fishing. She took the photo today at her Mt. Sherman Farm, located off KY 210, about one mile from the Taylor County line. Most roads were clear, but side roads were a bit iffy, enough so that schools were closed in LaRue County today.

Scenic LaRue County: Ice covered oak leaves beside trail
2014-02-05 - Mt. Sherman, KY - Photo by Lindsay Durbin. Ice covered oak leaves along a horse pasture fence with just a skiff of snow make the trail along the woods line all the more inviting. Photo taken by Lindsay Durbin, Mt. Sherman, LaRue County, KY.

A photo from the frozen north
2014-02-05 - South Columbia Street crossing to Old Columbia Road on New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY, KY - Photo from a thoughtful wayfarer. This photo was received around noonish Wednesday with no explanation but was intended, apparently, to show the difference 16 miles makes for climate in Kentucky. Roads were clear down here in balmy Columbia while Campbellsville was getting a veritable Chicago blizzard - at least on this day.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Kale and White Bean Stew
2014-02-05 - Shelby County, KY - Photo by Pen. It kind of puts one in mind of soups they used to make at Dagwoods Restaurant , the wonderful little cafe two blocks off the Square on N 3rd Street which (used to be? is?) in Bardstown. They had a similar soup they called "Portuguese Kale" soup, and whether they used Kielbasa or a fancy sausage to flavor it or not, it was, as all their soups were, a taste of heaven. I liked it in its gentle form, without piri-piri or Texas Pete, but if one just can't get through a meal with overdosing on endorphins, then the gold standard of sauces, Frank's will do just fine. Anyway you have it, it's great on a day like today. - EW
