Classic Clock: Taylor County Bank

2014-02-21 - 325 East Main Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM radio.
A classic Main Street fixture,
the clock on the Taylor County Bank's Main Street location, was undergoing maintenance yesterday, February 20, 2014, and couldn't help but notice how big it is - seemed to be swallowing the repair man servicing it. Have to appreciate how everyone up and down Main pay attention to details. Downtowns can work again. Main Street, Downtown Campbellsville is. - Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM

Scenic Adair County, KY: Rounding crest, Dug Hill

2014-02-21 - Above Inroad, District 3, 2014 - Photo by Ed Waggener. Scenic Highway 704's curves are gentler now, since a recent reshaping on Dug (sometimes called 'Insurance' Hill) just north of Inroad. The view is looking north, to the plateau, with Hadley's Community Church, Fairplay, Gadberry, and Tabor communities ahead and between Inroad and Columbia, KY, a stretch of scenery unrivalled anywhere. There's a couple of informal pull-offs to enjoy the views, which deserve the kind of developed overlooks seen at Scott Ridge near Raywick in Marion County or at High Grove north of Bardstown, KY.

Scenic Marion Co., KY: Club 68 lives on

2014-02-21 - Marion Co., KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM radio. The old Club 68 sign is now owned by famed Lebanon, KY, trial lawyer and Democratic Party power and my very good friend, Elmer George. It's a treasured bit of history Mr. George preserved. You can see a hint of the sign in the linked photo. What a wonderful era for music in Kentucky. Hyleme George brought some might names to Lebanon, to his "Club Cherry" on Water Street and to "Club 68." Names like Ike and Tina Turner, and, on the marquee in the accompanying photo, Jerry Lee Lewis. - Larry Smith, FM 99.9, The Big Dawg. Paired photo. A 'Book' on Knifley

2014-02-21 - ACPL, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. If there is a history devoted exclusively to Knifley, we are CM aren't aware of it. Much of the history of the community can be found in chapters of other books - books by Mike Watson, Minnie Rubarts, and in the works of Janice Holt Giles and Henry Giles, among others. Collectively, they are a treasure trove of information, supplemented by CM's 'Knifley' topic, of course. One 'book' worth a few hours perusing and researching on site is the Adair County Genealogy Department's "Community - Knifley" folder, above. It's filled with clippings and photos, like the two above. The one on the right, above, showing three sets of twins in the Little Cake Community from an old Adair County News or Columbia- or Daily Statesman newspapers, and may be misplaced in the folder - at least by Little Caketonians viewpoint. but it's interesting. The twins are Omer and Homer Neat, Earl and Edwin Merritt, and Maxine and Christine Wheat. A handdwritten note suggests the photo was likely made in the early 1920s. The note on the back of the other photo gives names: "Frances Poff, John T. Garmon, Emma Pollard Garmon, and a Mrs. Poff."
