Reflection of the our past and foretaste of our future

2014-04-27 - Theatre Walk, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Saw this this morning before being insulted by Stanley Perkins who called me and the other fine gentleman with whom I was having a civil conversation "The Three Stooges." Lucky for him he ducked inside before one of us delivered a good whupping. But not to digress: It is kinda neat how light arranged itself to fit the clocktower, with some pretty fair clouds behind it. Hershel Harmon remembered the little window under the reflection and recalls the butterscotch ice cream exhibitors Charles & Yvonne Marshall sold there. I didn't remember that, but maybe someone else can before we have to resort to the violence of arm wrestling to settle it. Some of us thing the day's a-coming when Downtown Columbia will again be the destination it was in those days. - EW

Restaurants on Jamestown Hill

2014-04-27 - Uptown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It's out in the country, almost a mile from Downtown - but the area from Hurt Street to LBN Parkway Interchange 49 is Restaurant Row. In sight above are signs for McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut, Dickey's BBQ (restaurant closed for the moment but their's mention of a reopening, possibly as a "Cookout"), and Wendy's. The new Taco Bell is on the left, but for now there's no sign. That's six. In addition, within easy walking distance, there's a Mexican Restaurant, Fiesta Mexico; a Sonic, a Chinese restaurant, Tray's Garden; that makes nine strictly restaurants. In addition - there's a a place for hot dogs and sandwiches in the Speedway, a breakfast bar in the Best Western; and a full sandwich and plate lunch deli in the IGA. Usually, there's a least one food truck, too, offering subs, BBQ or other fare, in the parking lot by Taco Bell. That makes a baker's dozen places in a .2 mile radius, 12 of them open most days. -EW
