Flowers: A lavender season
2014-05-06 - KY 206 & Shelby Co., KY - Photo CM Staff Photo. It's time for lilacs, pink clematis, right, and hanging petunias. No one has shared the best of lilacs yet, but the hanging petunias at Patty's Liberty Road Grocery & Deli, especially this one, looked as though it were a delightful painting. The Clematis isn't the largest - usually a reader photographer shares the largest ones, along with some measurements, but we're still waiting this year. And a reminder, May 5-19 each year is the Jericho Cliffs Mountain Laurel Watch. The rare for this area beauty usually blooms along Corbin's Bend Road this time of the year, but the latest inspection indicated Mountain Laurel is still a few days off. - CM

Lake Westlake, Columbia, KY
2014-05-06 - 900 Block, Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo Westlake Regional Hospital. Westlake CEO Neal Gold presented this photo showing the pooling which occcurs along Westlake Drive at entrances to the doctors building by the hospital. He asked for the City of Columbia to put in a drainage tile to carry off the excess, or, he quipped, "Help us buy waders for the doctors." He made the presentation at the Monday, May 5, 2014, meeting of the Council. Members of the Council reasoned that the drainage problem might be met by paving changes, and agreed to consult with paving contractors to see if that might be a lower cost option to remedy the situation, but agreed something needed to be done to aid the recovery now underway at the hospital.
