CAUD Phase 14/Downtown project: Tedious work


2014-05-13 - E Fortune & Reed Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Tammy Stotts. It's tedious work on the 100 block E. Fortune Street work in, under, over and around a maze of other utilities buried on the street, home to two telephone exchanges, as well as residences, but hometown firm, Stotts Construction Co., Inc. made great headway Monday, May 12, 2014. They will be working in the same area Tuesday. Above, on the mini excavator is Barry Stotts; in the ditch digging is Billy Crew and Richie Nanney. Brittany Curry: 2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Adair Co.

Brittany Curry, of Columbia, KY, was named the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman (formerly Junior Miss) of Adair County on Saturday night May 10 at Green County Middle School. The competition includes the areas of fitness, interview, self-expression, talent and scholastics. For talent, Brittany performed a trumpet solo of Bach's Air on the G String. Brittany will advance to the state program in Lexington next January. Brittany is the daughter of Teresa Abrell of Columbia. - Ronald Curry

Dawn cleanup time on the Square

At dawn this morning, cleanup had started, with a city sanitation packer passing through on its daily pickup route, and City Street Workers preparing the perimeters of the Square for the vacuum sweeper's pass. In the far corner, Tim Smith was one of two City Street Department workers blowing debris away from the curb into the path the vacuum truck would follow. - EW

Columbia Construction Traffic 2014-05-12: by Dawn's Early Light


2014-05-12 - Intersection S Reed and E Fortune Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Parking spaces were already being filled before 6amCT at the Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of E Fortune & S Reed Streets, with vehicles normally parked at home on E Fortune were moved to avoid being blocked in by construction today. Stotts Construction will be undertaking the most challenging construction of he entire Downtown Project Phase 14/I when they replace the aging water main while negotiating a maze of telephone, cable, sewer and water lines 100-122 E Fortune Street. Construction will also be underway in the 100 Block of South Reed Street. - EW
