A Walk in the Woods

Just looking at a shady-covered trail through tall trees is enough to take a degree or two off the heat index. Actual shade can reduce ambient temps by 10-15F.

This trail loops around Griffey Lake in Bloomington. The wooden railing at center leads down to the shore.

Summer Reading program explores fossils and artifacts

This week we learned about fossils and Paleontology! The kids got to dig up their own dinosaurs and then used air dry clay to make a impression fossil. We also talked about the differences between fossils and artifacts and looked at real examples to see which is which.

Strawberry Moon creates spotlight effect over farm

From Monday night into Tuesday morning, the moonlight and mist came together just perfectly to create a spotlight effect over our farmland. Between the visuals and the warm, still air, it was surreal to stand out in the middle of it all. This month's moon is nicknamed the "Strawberry Moon". Although it lacked a red tint for the majority of the night, it was still an impressive thing to see hovering in the sky above.

New ACMS library built to inspire discovery

The new Adair County Middle School library has soaring windows that bring in light to inspire discovery by students who get to come for the first time in August 2026. Construction team members took pride in their work as Supt. Faulkner lead visitors into the new space on a recent visit. Among those touring the new school were Tourism Director Paige Nickel, Assistant Director Breann Franklin, Chamber of Commerce leaders Ellen Zornes, Brenda Mann, and Connie DeVore.

ACMS athletic facility to meet needs now and in future

Supt. Faulkner played a significant role in designing the ACMS athletic facility to meet the needs of current and future students. Once completed, the gymnasium will become one of five gym facilities on the Adair County Public Schools campus. The expanded athletic space will allow multiple events and tournaments to be hosted simultaneously, creating additional opportunities for student participation and community engagement.

Brand new Adair County Middle School nearly complete

The exterior of the new Adair County Middle School is now complete, waiting for the sign and logo. Interior finishing work continues throughout the facility. District officials say a public tour and grand opening celebration will be announced once construction is complete and the school is ready to welcome students.
