Low, flood-prone section of Campbellsville Street

2014-05-18 - Intersection Campbellsville & Fairground Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Staff Photo. When Town Creek is rerouted to eliminate the Big Ditch at the intersection, Campbellsville Street, left and four businesses, Columbia Tire & Recap, Wall Refrigeration, Adair Automotive, and Harper Detail will rarely if ever see flooding at the low spot evident in this photo to the left of the yellow sign on Campbellsville Street. Kentucky Highway Department workers have been busy this past week getting the project underway. A few of them are evident in this photo. Public awareness of the work came from Mayor Harris at the May meeting of the Columbia City Council and from Senator Sara Beth Gregory, who has been working with Judge Melton, Columbia businessmen Robin Wilkerson and Junior Stotts, and officials in Frankfort, KY to bring the project to fruition. At right, a Burton Garbage hauling van waits to go through the intersection, one of Columbia's busiest. A coincidental enhancement of the intersection, the removal of the Old Parson House, was also announced at the May 2, 2014 City Council meeting.
