Birds of KY: The Vulnerable among us

2014-05-31 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Celia Downey.
One would expect to sit peacefully on the back porch today
; however, these baby birds prohibited a quiet moment. They screamed for their mother who continuously dive bombed, driving me to shelter. The dog even ran to his house. These babies are not vulnerable and I do not even know what kind of bird that they are. The delighted mother bird saw that the coast was clear and fed the babies bugs and worms. - CELIA DOWNEY

The Search for the tomb of Paul Revere

2014-05-31 - Liberty Cemetery, Metcalfe County, KY - Photo CM staff photo. A Memorial Day quest -
With the help of Geniece Marcum
the gravesite of Joseph A. Turner, her grandfather, Linda Waggener's great grandfather, Pen & Tom Waggener's Great great grandfather, and Hailey, Tillie, Evan and Graham's great, great great great grandfather, was finally located. Joseph A Turner was a prolific writer, who penned many a column, a goodly percentage righteous and true and the rest all for great humor, for newspapers in Adair County, Metcalfe County, and Barren County - maybe even Russell, under the name of "Paul Revere." He was a merchant at Cave Ridge in Metcalfe County, KY. We surmised that many, many Americans were having similar experiences about long forgotten family history, on that day. - EW. PS - Here's a link to a delightful Paul Revere column discovered and with biographical data added by "JIM." - JIM: Christmas Eve: Leatherwood Creek, Nell, Adair Co., Ky 1869

2014-05-31 - Photo by Pen.
Brussels sprouts, ready for roasting. After washing, cut them in half, drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and put them in a 350 degree over for 12-20 minutes for a great side dish or topping for a placed salad.
