Farmers Market on the Square plans for April 5, 2014 start
 2014-03-21 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff photo. Last night 9 committed vendors for the 2014 Farmers Market on the Square attended the first of three pre-opening sessions. Above from left, are Beth Rutherford, Dale Whittingham, and Jana Esch, and standing, Barbara Armitage, handing out participant materials. The first Farmers Market on the Square, held again this year at the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, parking lot, will be Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 8am-12pmCT. Jana Esch volunteered to be the entertainment booking agent. Barbara Armitage said the market has gained the interest of several new producers, mentioning one new one who will be selling locally ground and processed coffee, and another who will offer stained glass. The majority of the vendors will have garden vegetables and fruits, she said. Besides producers, the Farmers Market is hoping volunteers will help with set ups, be docents, and, among other things, act as "Walmart greeters," for the popular event. The market already has an economic impact on the community, with gross sales last year topping $250,000.

Trail Town enthusiast: Steve Chundy at Harvest Cafe

Steve Chundy owner of Harvest Cafe (formerly the Cafe on the Square was one of 22 local business and attended the Thursday, March 13, 2014 Trail Towns USA meeting at the Adair County Health Department and heard Elaine Wilson outline the economic impact of a Trail Towns USA designation for communities involved in the program. He plans to fully participate in the development of Columba/Adair County as a Trail Towns USA destination. The restaurant has been a long time supporter of Biker Friendly programs, and has benefited from the bikers visits.

A hard act to follow, and they were first on the show bill - About half the troupe who stole the show at the Adair County board meeting last night areFrom left: Isaiah Brown, Tristan Stotts, Gabby Kemp, JT Loy, Kaylee Vance, all from Adair County Primary Center. They were joined by others not pictured, including Natalie Sneed, Isaiah Brown, Xavier Rodriguez, Natalie Bardin, Bryce Russell, and Tristan Stotts in the Pledge of Allegiance - and won the hearts of a packed Adair County Board of Education March 20, 2014 meeting audience. Behind the young scholars are Board Members Joe Payne (Div. 3) and Greg Willis (1). At appropriate breaks in the performance the children got at least three rounds of enthusiastic applause.

Adair 4-H members take top spots in state 4-H Dairy Jeopardy
 2014-03-21 - Adair County Middle School, Columbia, KY - Photo by Tony Rose. On Monday, March 17 three 4-H members from Adair County participated in the 2014 State 4-H Dairy Jeopardy Contest. This contest test the youth's knowledge of the entire dairy industry. Gabe Cowan, Sam Baker, and Walter Baker participated in the Junior Division. Walter Baker placed first in the Junior Division and Sam Baker place third in the Senior Division. Gabe Cowan finished in the top ten. They got raves from everyone. He says that the secret is in a slower process.
