Rare Sight: A truck invited into courthouse

2013-11-02 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It won't be part of the Prim Fair inside the Historic Adair Courthouse today, but it was fun sight yesterday in preparation for the Big Event. Most of the time pickup trucks which crash through the door end in arrests, or fines in the case of the famed horseback ride through the courthouse, when the rider reputedly paid twice the assessment, telling the judge he was going to ride back through. The wife of the owner of this pickup got permission from Ellen Zornes, Adair Heritage Association CEO, and was invited to set up the Casey's Station Antiques display in a very simple manner - Adair County's equivalent of being able to drive onto the Hoosier Dome playing field before a big trade show. Zornes explained that this tied floor is scheduled for replacement, so no damage could be done. There wasn't any, as the driver, who's initials "J.M. Shelley" will not be revealed, gently drove out. Mrs.Shelley operates one of the leading South Central Kentucky antique stores and will be one of the major attractions today.
