Human Rights Commision ordinances in hands of lawyers


2014-06-11 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin accepted a copy of a model Human Rights Commission ordinance from Bobby Bowe, who presented the recommendation of the joint city-county planning committee to Adair Fiscal Court at its Tuesday, June 10, 2014 session. Bowe made brief remarks on the HRC, saying that it will help provide a level playing field for all citizens. With floor leadership by Magistrate Sammy Baker (3), the recommendation was accepted 7-0, with Mr. Baker being joined in affirmation by Magistrates Harold Burton (1), Daryl Flatt (2), Perry Reeder (4), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Joe Rogers (6) and Billy Rowe (7). City Attorney Marshall Loy will work with the County Attorney to adopt a final draft. The County also voted to have an 11 member panel, with five members appointed by the City, five from the County, and one at large who will be approved by both bodies. - EW

Storms no damper of sunny outlook of these kids

Storms no problem for these VBS students - The weather did not stop Tyler Murphy, Harley Grider, Natalie Sneed, Anslie Spoon and Chloe Karnes from enjoying the outdoor festivities during VBS at Hadley Community Church, 8269 Fairplay Road, Columbia, KY. We had 30 adults and 32 children for a close run in spite of the weather with last evenings numbers of 64. The Bible School continues tonight and through Friday, June 13, 2014, at 6pmCT each evening. - Rita Carter
