Epicurean Kentuckian: an Adair County Ribeye Steak Sandwich

2013-11-04 - 17165 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff staff. The Ribeye Steak Sandwich is a regular item at the Mustard Seed Country Store. Most prefer it neat, on rye or white bread. This one has thick slices of sweet white onion, garden fresh tomato, and fresh lettuce on a white bun. And if your preference is not medium, above, your Mustard Seed Chef will cook to order. Prices are very reasonable, too. The entree is served solo in a sandwich, as a 4 oz. or 8 oz. Ribeye Plate, and in combination with the restaurant's signature Chili/Baked Potato Bar. Pretty fancy eating for a country store.- EW

Scenic Taylor County, KY: Old Green River Bridge

2013-11-04 - Tebbs Bend Road, Taylor County, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM radio. Here's another view of a landmark bridge: - The Old Green River Bridge isn't used so much anymore, but at one time it carried all the traffic between Columbia and Campbellsville (up to 60 years ago?) when what is now Tebb's Bend Road was still part of KY 55. Traffic slowed crossing the Green, and drivers may have fussed about all the curvy roads, but those who remember the trips now do so with great fondness. This iron bridge will be coming down and be moved downstream on the Old Homeplace, and a new old style bride will be built here. Expecting it sometime next year. This view is looking upstream toward the Green River Dam. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications

Birds of Kentucky: Bald Eagle Main Street, Campbellsville, KY

2013-11-04 - West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by George Rice.
Everyone has been waiting for nature photographer George Rice to send a Birds of Kentucky entry with a sighting of the national bird in the Green River Country. This isn't it, but it's good enough, with this explanation: "The eagle mascot was with the Campbellsville High School foot ball parade and I only took the picture to test my camera in preparation for a later entry that had my Grandson in the parade. That picture wasn't supposed to be sent to you. That bird just invited himself along," he wrote. The mascot is headed east on the 100 block of West Main Street in Campbellsville, KY.
