The Simcoe Dockery Stele: Another perspective

2014-10-19 - Jamestown City Cemetery, N Main Street, Jamestown, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). From within the Jamestown City Cemetery the monument to Simcoe Dockery, captured by this camera perspective, towers over the beautiful Jamesown United Methodist Church. The cemetery is in the 200 block N of Monument Circle, invites and is open and very friendly to walkers. The ramp in the lower left of the photo is a reminder of another Russell/Adair connection. It's where Burdette Motors displayed so many Pontiacs, Nissans, and GMC trucks for the decades that Adair native, born again Russell Countian Billy Burdette operated the dealership.

The Monument to Mr. Simcoe Dockery

2014-10-19 - N Main Street, Jamestown, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
From the Main Street entrance to the Jamestown City Cemetery
guarded by stone angels, stands a visual image which is, nex to the Doughboy on Monument Square, perhaps the most enduring one of the stunningly beautiful county seat. Here in one perspective, it seems one of gentle grandeur, dominating the landscape, befitting a life of the man JIM re-discovers in the accompanying article. Surrounding the cemetery are woods and quiet residents on city streets one feels intrusive travels, though along them Secret Garden discoveries of idyllic settings are hidden.

Used Cows: Only in Adair County?

2014-10-18 - KY 92, Adair County District 3, Columbia, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). One of South Central Kentucky's most beautiful drives is KY 92 from Zion through Beautiful Joppa to Montpelier to Esto to Jamestown, KY. Along the way there are things to learn, as well, as we did when we noticed for the first time ever that Adair County has a Used Cow dealership. The jacket advertises "Sammy Baker Used Cows, Columbia, KY, 270-378-6496." That's a service not every county has, we're pretty sure. - CM
