Laying waterline, Downtown Columbia, has archaelogical aspects

2014-06-16 - N Jefferson Alley, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Ben Bault, employee of Stotts Construction Co., Inc., prepares to cut a 24" x 24" concrete footer found while replacing waterlines in Downtown Columbia. The contractors were told to expect to find anything in the process of laying new water lines, and they have. They believe that the footer may be part of the most recently razed building on the site. An 8 inch water main will be installed in Jefferson Alley, which will serve the Bank of Columbia, Reed Brothers Insurance, Durham & Zornes Law Office, the Columbia Theatre building, Moores Lunchroom, the H.H. Coomer building, and Marshall Loy Law office. The large main is needed for fire proection purposes much more so than for water consumption. Traffic through N Jefferson Alley is closed today, Monday, June 16, 2014. - EW
