Found dog: Female English Setter at Sugarfoot Farm Rescue

2014-06-17 - Sugarfoot Farm Rescue, 860 Sparksville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Peg Schaeffer. Happy Ending: Cindy Ploss called at 5:30amCT, Tuesday, June 17, 2014, to claim her dog!
Dog found - Someone brought this female English Setter to us on Sunday, June 15, 2014, that they found in the Flatwoods area of Adair County. She is wearing a shock collar. She's very friendly and in good shape so I'm sure someone's looking for her. She's also very active and never sits still for a photo; this is the best one I could get. If she's yours please call Peg Schaeffer at Sugarfoot Farm Rescue 270-378-4521 or 270-634-4675. - Peg Schaeffer

Birds of KY: American Goldfinch

2014-06-17 - KY - Photo by Pen. Photo seven years ago today, 2007-06-17 - Kentucky - Photo by Pen.. These little yellow birds can be seen by the dozens among purple thistle this time of year. Females are less vivid, but can still be recognized by their distinctive call and halting flight, which characteristically involves three or four wingbeats with vocalization, and then a coasting drop in altitude with wings tucked tightly to their sides before the next wingbeats lift them again.

Downtown Columbia, KY: A bit bizarre alternate universe

2014-06-17 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Columbia is cooler here. For whatever purpose prompted it, the predominate white cools the summer heat islands of the town. White buildings. White roof tops. One day white or light parking lots. Makes sense, especially on a scorcher promised today, Tuesday, June 17, 2014. The scene is a reflection caught at the Adair County Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, taken on a pleasantly cool Sunday morning, June 17, 2014. - EW

Gardening: A just-right-summers a-coming flower garden

2014-06-17 - S High at W Guardian Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Not an element out of place and rather symbolic of a successful neighborhood. Just right mixture of reds and lavenders, knockouts and ornamental tree, cone flower and petunias at the Cheatham home at a turn off West Guardian onto S High Street. Slightly hidden at right, as essential to summer living as fresh brewed Southern iced tea - a front porch swing. - CM
