Sturdy Volunteers: Shades of Lavender and Blue Nigella

Our Nigella produced only a few wispy stems in 2010
but has since faithfully maintained a presence. The fat striped seed pods can be gathered and the seeds merely strewed on top of the soil. This year a second flowering has sprung from plants that Jim mowed in his persistent efforts to tidy the straggling edges of my gardens. A clump has established along with an errant poppy or two in the edge of the stony rubble behind the garage. Sharon Whitehurst

Travel Advisory: KY 214 Detour in Monroe Co. for Closed Ferry


2014-06-19 - Bowling Green, KY - Photo courtesy KYTC. The ferry barge on KY 214 in Monroe County is set to temporarily close for inspection and maintenance for a 10-day period in July.

The ferry is scheduled to shutdown on Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m. and will reopen no later than July 28 at 6 a.m. Message boards are already in place to inform passing motorists. The closure will create a detour approximately 33 miles and 45 minutes long. The detour details are listed below and shown on this map.

Motorists traveling from the Tompkinsville area: Instead of turning onto Ky. 214 to head to the ferry, stay on Ky. 100 and take a right on Ky. 90. Stay on Ky. 90 into Burkesville. Then, take a left onto Ky. 61 which connects back to Ky. 214 or stay on Ky. 61 to continue south.

Motorists traveling toward the Tompkinsville area: Instead of turning onto Ky. 214 to head to the ferry, stay on Ky. 61 to Burkesville and take a left onto Ky. 90. Then, follow Ky. 90 and take a left onto Ky. 100. Ky. 100 connects back into Ky. 214 or stay on Ky. 100 to head to Tompkinsville.

Sadly she passed on May 11, 2014. This original framed pencil drawing is of a momma bear and her cub, was placed in the Rotary Auction by her husband, Gerald Holt. Columbia Rotary Radio Auction will be Monday & Tuesday June 23rd & 24, 2014, 6pm-9pmCT, on The WAVE 92.7 FM and WAIN 93.5 FM. The list of items is growing, and already number more than the big 2013 auction, when 182 were items were on the final auction bill. The newest items will be added to Columbia Rotary Radio Auction
