Larry Smith, South Central Historian and photo collector, and Operations Manager for Shoreline Communications, found this early black and white postcard depictiing the Tebbs Bend Confederate Monument. He says that there may be another photo which shows the top more clearly. Comparing the photo, with those of the monument today, it is clear that a large base has been added, and that blocks have been added, apparently to increase the height. In the photo with her is husband Andrew, standing in front of her is her grandson Stanley Murphy and next to him is her great-grandson Charles Cooper. She also delivered both these children. I am unsure of the date, but my best guesstimate is around 1939 or 1940, which places her somewhere around 77 or 78 years old.
