Larry Smith: Very early picture of the Alhambra

2014-11-11 - E Main Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo from collection of Larry Smith.
This is a very early picture of the Alhambra Theater
, must have been before or around 1920, because the big movie posters are for Hoot Gibson westerns. Haven't been able to find out any names of the men lined up in front, or the pretty little girl, but that would have been interesting. The little alley on the left goes between the Alhambra and the Citizens Bank Building. -Larry Smith, Operation Manager, Shoreline Communications Paired Photo. Topside: Clocktower & daytime moon, Historic Adair Courthouse

2014-11-11 - Topside, the World above The Holler - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne, Adair Co. School District.
Coming around the Square Monday morning . . . looked up and saw what I thought was an awesome shot. Drove around the square again and pulled over at snapped one. Glad I didn’t have to make that third time around . . . always heard that was illegal. Would hate to get a ticket while taking a picture. Maybe CM could talk them out of it for me. - Shamarie Claiborne. (Does anyone know the law? Is it illegal to make three circle around the Square? Reply using the Comments button with this photo if you know. - CM)

Alhambra Theater, E Main Street, Campbellsville, KY

2014-11-11 - E Main Street, Campbellsville, KY - Photo from the collection of Larry Smith.
For a time, Campbellsville's Main Street was a mini-Louisville Fourth Street. Great department stores, small shops, the post office, Taylor County's best restaurants, churches, and more - including our own theatre district. The Alhambra Theater served the community for some 35 years before closing in the mid-fifties. Within a few yards, the community also had the Cozy Theater which closed later. I'd love to learn more about it. Got my start in show biz as a projectionist at the Skyline Drive-in in Summersville. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications Paired Photo. ADAIR Band Encore Performance at Blue Raider Stadium

2014-11-11 - Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KYaii - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne, Adair Co. School District.
The ADAIR Band performed their community encore Monday night, 10 Nov 2014, at Lindsey Wilson College's Blue Raider Football Stadium. It was a perfect night for it; the weather was perfect and there was a good crowd supporting the children. The students performed their show twice, trying to get ready for this week's competition in Indianapolis during the Bands of America Grand National Competition. - Shamarie Claiborne, Media Promotions Coordinator, Adair County School District.
