FM2 close up: I can vouch for Jay's BBQ tenderloin

2014-07-19 - Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
I can vouch for the BBQ Tenderloin Sandwich I had at Jay's BBQ. I'm pretty sure I can vouch for the advice he was getting from my buddy Ralph Roy Waggener, left and his father, judging from the broad smile on Jay's face. LOL. Actually, Ralph and Mr. Cox were really well behaved. Ralph was waiting for his sandwich, and Mr. Cox makes frequent runs for Jay when he runs out of supplies. Jay must be doing something very right. He was very, very busy today. - Shamarie Claiborne

Farmers Market on the Square July 19, 2014: Mark Dicken

2014-07-19 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Mark Dicken looked up after straightening a stack of Shaker Oval Boxes into a 6 box tower. The boxes were inspired by a trip to Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, in Mercer County. He says that the boxes, which nest and which have been called "Tupperware before there was Tupperware," were the Shaker communities biggest selling item. A six-box set, ideal for a nice birthday, anniversary, Christmas or other special occasion sell for $200. Today was his first time at the Farmers Market on the Square. He also makes pens and offers stands for iPads, and cell phones. The pens range from $20 up. The cell phone stands works as a rather elegant business card holder, and sell for just $5. The iPad holder is $20. His crafts company is "Mark's Wood Creations," 203 Coakley Street, Campbellsville, KY. Mark Dicken had great things to say about the market. "Wayne and Barbara Armitage were absolutely wonderful," he said. "We were able to meet many of the of the other vendors, who were very welcoming. Many of the customers showed a great deal of interest in the oval boxes and were very gracious in their comments about them." His phone number is 270-403-9033, email: markdicken@windstream.net, for those who may have missed him at today's fair. - CM
