Its own monument
2014-08-23 - Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Don't have any idea what people call it, but this tree on a county lane parallel to the Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass is a marking place for many, and, in its own way, an work of great beauty; in a way, a monument to its own memory.

As Basil Bouquet is worth the price, but we'll eat the whole bunch
2014-08-23 - FM2/Adair Annex parking lot, 424 Public Square - Photo by Ed Waggener. Fresh herbs are featured at the 'Coburg Mall' the Coview Farms/Lonely Acres booths operated by Caitlin Helm and her father, Darrell Bunnell. When I got home after spending just $20 and getting some mostly tomatoes, along with more tomatoes, green pepper, dangerous hot peppers Wayne Armitage sold me, and eggplant, the bouquet this bunch of basil commanded the most attention. Put it a vase for a center piece, rinse a leaf and ate, and all kinds of ideas for its use went through my mind, even without calling the family basil boffin, Pen, for proven recipes. And for just $1.50. The Farmers Market on the Square is open today, Saturday, August 23, 2014, from 8am-1pmCT, at the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

A big step in transformative beauty, downtown
2014-08-23 - 100 block Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Burkesville Street looked cooler, and the Columbia Baptist Church Parking lot much more attractive with the addition of landscaping. The "trees" are white crepe (or crape) myrtle, the same or smilar variety which dominate the Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce grounds in the next block. Today, visitors to the Mark Twain Marching Band Festival will be talking about the stunning "Transformative" changes on the Adair County School Campus, a genuine sight to behold. Perhaps it's a catalyst for changes like this one, perhaps Lindsey Wilson started it all. Superintendent Reed and Maintenance Director David Jones and his predecessor, Ricky Bault, were all found of saying, "We're going to have a campus as beautiful as Lindsey Wilson College. The work above was overseen by a committee of Columbia Baptist Church Trustees, Chair Delmer Lee Jessee, Jr., and Chris Quinn and Dan Antle.
