Old Police Car at Monroe Watermelon Festival car show

2014-08-24 - Magnolia Street, Tompkinsville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Sidney Hale's old police cruiser was one of the star attractions at the big Monroe County Watermelon Festival yesterday evening on the Square in Tompkinsville, KY. It was quite an event. Through town traffic on KY 163 was maintained, but several streets around the Monroe County Courthouse - one of the Commonwealth's most pleasant - were blocked off for the event. The old cruiser was never a part of the Tompkinsville Police Department's - just 50 feet or so away from the cruiser (Google PHOTO) - equipment, but the owner is a resident of Tompkinsville.

Bird frightener snake keeps carport cleaner

2014-08-23 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. I almost stepped on the wicked looking snake on neighbor Kenneth Janes' carport. But it was only making a living, scaring off birds. Besides, it's made of rubber. It seems to work, Janes said. The idea is philosophically similar to the one Second Christian Church Trustee Bill Wheat uses to keep birds out of the church's picnic pavillion.
