Retaining wall, Greensburg Post Office, falls

2014-08-24 - S Main at W Columbia Avenue, Greensburg, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM radio. Sometime during last night, the retaining wall at the back of the Greensburg Post Office collapsed, due, apparently due to pressure from the water build-up behind the solid concrete wall. The retaining wall is located just a few yards from the site of the collapse of a concrete roof under the pressure of a loaded Summersville Water Truck; though the two are not considered related incidents at this time. - LARRY SMITH, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications, (FM 92.7 the WAVE and FM 99.9 the BIG DAWG). A Mixed Use Thoroughfare: Adair Veterans Bypass

2014-08-24 - Adair Veterans Memorial Bypass, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Early Saturday morning, August 23, 2014 was a great time in Columbia. It was the day of the most cornflower, ironweed and goldenrod was showing a lot of color, and out on the bypass, vehicular traffic shared the road with a runner, who was traveling into the traffic. It's still remembered that the bypass could have had a dedicated bike path, but the thinking back in those medieval days was, "We don't need that. We can build a place down on Russell Creek where they can ride their beyekes."

Happy chickens enjoying great perks at Blackaby Hill Farm

2014-08-24 - Blackaby Hill Farm, Adair County, KY - Photo by Lisa Blackaby. Our laying hens are finally starting to fire back up again. "Earning their keep" is what I like to call it, - Lisa Blackaby of Blackaby Hill Farm writes. She now has lots of eggs from Happy Hens for sale at local Farmers Market on the Square and the Adair Farmer's Market, and no longer has to make excuse's when there no hen's eggs. Everyone had understood when here where no duck eggs; they were disappointed, but anyone who prizes a duck egg omelet also understands ducks - notional creatures who's minds are difficult to understand. But the hen eggs - it seemed to have been getting harder and harder to make excuses for the these usually reliable members of the workforce. Incidentally, at one of the Epicurean Kentuckian kitchens, most days we prefer Blackaby Hill hens eggs. - CM
