Steve Warren speaks in opposition to payroll tax

Steve Warren an Adair Countian who is not a resident of Columbia, and who, as a Physical Therapist, will be heavily taxed by the proposed Payroll Tax the Columbia City Council is expected to enact at it's October 6, 2014, meeting with approval of a second reading of the ordinance. Warren spoke passionately in opposition to the tax. He cautioned that once enacted, taxes grow, and never go away. The public will have two more chances to voice opinions, at a Special Called Meeting, at 6amCT, Monday, September 8, 2014, at City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The public will also have a chance to comment on the proposed new tax at the Council's regular session, October 6, 2014, in the same location, same time, when the second and final reading before enactment, is scheduled to take place. Local arts scene: First CU Noon Organ Recital 2014-2015 - Robert Nicholls, well-known conductor and organist at First Presbyterian Church in Evansville, IN, will be the guest for Campbellsville University's first Noon Organ Recital of the new academic year at 11:20amCT/12:20pmET. Tuesday, September 16, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 429 N Central Avenue, Campbellsville, next door to Campbellsville University's Gosser Fine Arts Center. Everyone is welcome to attend this event free of charge. Dr. Ron Rogers: Dogs Don't Bark at Parked Cars

Listening to citizen comments - Councillors Dr. Ron Rogers, Charles Grimsley, and Councillor and Mayoral Candidate June Parsons listened to citizen comments on the proposed new Columbia City Payroll Tax. Dr. Rogers, who heartily endorsed the proposed tax, quoted a popular saying, "Dogs don't bark at parked cars," perhaps the most memorable comment on the issue, saying that change is needed, and that the payroll tax is right, whether everyone likes it or not. Art in the Vineyard will highlight work of SCC employees


2014-09-03 - Somerset, KY - Photo photo from Somerset Community College. Wanda Fries' latest book, "The Vineyard & Other Stories" will be released during the annual Art in the Vineyards event September 6 at Cedar Creek Vineyards in Somerset. Shown with Fries left is Nancy Phelps, whose photograph was used for the cover. Both Fries and Phelps are employees at Somerset Community College. Art in the Vineyards will be held at Cedar Creek Vineyards, 294 Cedar Creek Lane, Somerset, KY, 10am-5pmCT/11am-6pmCT, Saturday, September 6. Admission is $5 per vehicle on-site - proceeds go to fund Watershed Arts Alliance projects - or you can park at the Shopville Library, 144 Shopville Road, Somerset, KY on KY 80 and catch a free shuttle. There are many returning artists, as well as some who have not participated in the past. There will also be several interactive art activities for children to enjoy. Mixed Nuts, a traditional stringband, will be performing from 12pm-2pmCT/1pm-3:30pmEt.. LaMay & Reece, an American folk music duo, will perform at 3pmCT/4pmET. Food will be offered from Expressions Tea, the Village Trough, and Cedar Creek Farm. And of course, fine wines will be available from Cedar Creek Vineyards
