2014 Fall Festival on Green River: Face painting

Face painting
is has been a favorite for youngsters at previous Homeplace on Green River Fall Heritage Festivals, and Saturday's festival was no exception. Adair County High School art teacher Cayse Davenport was the featured artist most of the day. Among those who benefited from her artistry was Brianna Caldwell, daughter of Bradley and Holly Caldwell, Columbia. The festival drew about 1000 people. Included in the day's activities were hayrides, arts and crafts sales and demonstrations, all-day live music featuring six groups and individual performers, and many other family activities. - George Kolbenschlag

Adair Countians have beautiful mums at Homeplace

Both the mums on display
and for sale by Adair Countians Brandi and Brenton Shepherd and hay rides were prominent attractions at Saturday's Homeplace on Green River's Fall Heritage Festival. In spite of predictions of rain and a number of competing events Saturday, about 1000 people attended the Festival which included live music all day, arts and craft sales and a variety of family activities. The Festival is an annual event scheduled for the Saturday after Labor Day. George Kolbenschlag

National Champion wrestlers honored at Saturday football game

Lindsey Wilson College's latest wrestling national champions were honored during Saturday's LWC-Reinhardt (GA) University football game at Blue Raider Stadium. Jameel Bryant of St. Petersburg, FL, left, and Joe Cozart of Brandon, Fla., both won individual NAIA wrestling titles in 2013-14. Cozart won at the 157-pound class to claim in his first NAIA title, and Bryant won for the second consecutive year at the 184-pound class. LWC has won four individual NAIA wrestling national titles. - Duane Bonifer

Red Nixon

Red Nixon was among the diverse crowed with attended the impromptu rally for U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes on a busy afternoon, Saturday, September 6, 2014. Red, a hero of the ACHS class of 1958, remembered for being able to enter a tight basketball game, shoot - and hit - a 30 foot game winning goal the first time he'd get his hands on the ball and who may have been the only person the late coach John Burr would never criticize for impetuousness if he missed - is also the only Adair County High School Coach ever to coach a state Track & Field champion. Today, at 76, he is the premier preservation contractor in the area. But don't try to hire him. He's booked up heavier than ever.

LWC Football: Watching the Game

LWC's next game is against Kentucky Wesleyan College at 6 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 13, at Blue Raider Stadium, 828 Russell Road.

LWC Football: Chaz Barnes

Lindsey Wilson College wide receiver Chaz Barnes of Alcoa, Tenn., completes a 47-yard pass play in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Reinhardt (Ga.) University at Blue Raider Stadium. The play set up LWC's second touchdown, which gave the Blue Raiders a 13-0 lead. But the Eagles rallied to upset No. 18 LWC 52-48. For the game, Barnes caught seven pass for 131 yards.
