(Ad) Joey White for Adair County Jailer - 4 Nov 2014
2014-10-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo Political Advertising Paid for by the Candidate.
I am Joey White, Republican Candidate for Adair County Jailer.
In 1987, my family made Columbia home when my Dad, Terry White, was called to be the minister at Columbia Christian Church. My parents are Terry and Marci White. I am 38 years-old. I have been married to my wife, Elizabeth Burton White for 10 years; she is the daughter of Steve and Jacqueline Burton. We have two children. My family and I attend and serve at the Columbia Christian Church where I am a Deacon and Youth Ministry Team Leader. I also enjoy serving the community in multiple ways, through the county's sports programs, Relay for Life, Lindsey Wilson College football and other community events.
In 1994 I graduated from Adair County High School. After high school, I attended the National Hardwood Lumber Association lumber inspection training program. In 1997, I started my career as a local business owner, operating B &W Lumber until 2000 and White Millworks Inc. from 2000-2013. I am currently self-employed as a lumber broker.
As a business owner I have managed up to 20 employees, while budgeting a 1.5 million dollar operation. I have experience with everything from supervision and budgeting to maintenance. I didn't just own my business, I worked along-side my employees to get the job done.
I understand that managing the budget is a very important part of this office. I also know that the economy is in bad shape and budgets are tight. The decisions I make will put the tax payer's dollars to best use.
My experience in sales has taught me to be a great communicator and negotiator. I know how to work with all types of people. I have learned that if you treat people with respect they will respect you. I also know the importance of listening to people in the community and will always be open to talk to anyone or listen to your ideas.
I have prided myself on always being an honest, hardworking businessman. If elected, I will treat the jail as my own business, always committed and dedicated to my job. I would be a Christian leader and decision maker. I will:
- Keep the current staff
- Treat everyone fairly and with respect
- Always listen to new ideas from you, the members of the community
I would strive to reduce the number of repeat offenders. I understand there are several programs already in place for the inmates. If I am elected I would keep these current programs going and possibly add others if funding permits. Each inmate should leave with the skills needed to find jobs and be a productive member of the community.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve this county as Jailer, if elected. I am enjoying traveling the county and meeting and talking with people. Please know that I am doing my best to visit and talk with each one of you, however if I do miss you please know that your vote and support is important to me. Thank you for the support that was shown in the May primary and for the support that I continue to receive. I am asking for your vote in the general election on November 4th. If you have questions please feel free to contact me at 270-634-0303.
Thank You for Your Consideration - JOEY WHITE

This story isn't true, but it's timely
2014-10-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo courtesy Dave Rosenbaum. Dave Rosenbaum writes, "Ed, I ran across this old clipping from the Adair County paper of years and years ago. I'm sure that you wrote it and it is my favorite from the old days." (The story, of course is crops up often, with different names inserted, mostly when a particular faction holds power or a long time. The political raconteur who repeated it was a diehard Carter faction partisan, as I recall. - EW
We thank Dave for sending this clipping. The text is a little hard to follow, so it's transcribed below:I know that this story isn't true, but with election time coming up, I think it is appropriate.
The story goes that the State moved in on the Carter organization in Monroe County and made them purge the voter lists. It knocked them for a loop, the story says, but Tim Lee Carter said they could rebuild the list quickly, and volunteered himself and Joe Pettit, the Tompkinsville police chief (and a former Lindsey Wilson man and a great one) to get it back together.
The two went to the Old Mulkey Meeting House Cemetery to copy down names from the tombstones to make up a new list of voters, the story says. After a while, Chief Pettit let out a holler. "Good heavens, Dr. Carter," Chief Pettit is said to have exclaimed, "I think I've found a name long enough to make us two voters." At which point Dr. Carter grew very serious, and this is why he is a great man. "Now look here, Joe Pettit," Dr. Carter is supposed to have scolded, "if we are going to do this job, we are going to do it honestly. You just make up one name from that one. I won't put up with any monkeyshines."

Birds of KY: George Rice spots 1st White Crane he's seen here
2014-10-06 - Knifley RD/Ky 551 at Egypt, KY - Photo by George Rice. White Crane - Found this beautiful bird on my pond as I was checking the cattle. Hurried to the house for my camera and returned to find him sitting in this tree. It is some type of crane. I don't remember ever seeing a white crane before as our native cranes are blue or dark color. I guess we will have to ask our nature expert Billy Joe Fudge to name it. George Rice.
