Big Al is back on the road: Finds Alanreed, TX exit


2014-10-12 - Alanreed, TX - Photo by Big Al Owens, the Big Rig Trucker. Big Al Owens is on the road again as a big rig trucker. He just sent us this location, taken with his cellphone. The town was name for "Messrs. Alan and Reed," according to the Wikipedia entry for Alanreed, Texas, and account of the town which also notes it, earlier, was named Gouge Eye, for a fight there.

ACHS Volleyball Seniors honored for hard work

The Adair County Volleyball team
honored their seniors for all their hard work with flowers and these beautiful framed pictures. The team also went on to beat Cumberland County 2-1 and the JV won 2-0. Senior members of the team with their coach, Above, are #17 Kazandra Trejo, #16 Ashley Farmer, #00 Sarah Bault, Coach Michael Godsey, #14 Katelyn Moore, #6 Shayla Burton, #22 Harlee Smock. Everybody has one more chance to watch the these senionrs and the whole team in action at home on October 14, 2014, when they host Clinton County. The match starts at 5pmCT, Adair County High School's John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY.

Horse art is a theme at this house

When Linda went to a big dress up occasion at work, she work an oversized gold pen, part of a collection of horse memorabilia my mother-in-law, Geniece Marcum's collection. The photo is in front of a treasured horse art print Mrs. Marcum dearly loves. Mrs. Marcum picked up on her great granddaughters love of horses, and almost always shares a beloved toy with them when they visit her in Columbia. Today, there isn't room for a real pony for Hailey and Tillie at our mighty fertile 1-acre urban farm, but fortunately, our neighbors, the Arnold's always have some beautiful horses of their own or animals boarding at Roseland Plantation for the little girls to enjoy when they visit. - EW

3rd Annual Adair Co. Book Fair: Denver Wilson, Russell Co., KY

Wilson was at the Adair County Book Fair, Saturday, 11 Oct 2014, with a number of his works. Above, with his most popular one, "Bootlegging in Paradise." The book is a highly entertaining one, which delves into operations of large and small scale illegal sales of alcoholic beverages in the days when prohibition prevailed everywhere between the Tennessee border, Richmond, KY, and Lebanon, KY. Wilson's wife, Claradon Wilson, is well know in the area for her work with the Russell Springs Times-Journal. - CM
