Montpelier: A Memory on Demand
2014-10-24 - Montpelier-on-the-county-line - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). It's an Had Oughta that we oughta heed: A dear friend, pining for his Old Kentucky Home from far northern Ohio, requested photo(s) last week. It was a simple request - Go to Jamestown, snap a photo. Return to Columbia via KY 92, and then swing over to Edmonson County. Specifically, he wanted a photo of the Montpelier store on the trip across KY 92. And this is one of the pictures we came home with.
It was pure sorriness that we let him down on his modest request that we "swing over to Edmonson County" find a town, locate a cemetery, and take a photo of an obelisk as tall as the one in Jamestown, and an e-bit, maybe a tad, shorter than Mr. Jefferson Davis'. We let him down on that one. His ideas were better than any we had conjured up for that beautiful gray day.
And learning a less - owing to a lack of imagination and creativity around - We realized that from 100s of miles away, someone else exceeded our own self-inspired notions. So we're asking that readers do the same thing - Request photo(s) of particular places in the 7-County Area of Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties.
If we are not up to the job, we'll put out a call for help. Just like one would ask Larry to play 'Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow.' And, if you don't have time to email, ring us up at the phone number at the bottom of the homepage. Our thanks to our dear friend. His daytrip suggestion was delightful. We could have stayed and looked at this building forever, if Edmonson County had not been calling. - EW
