A very welcome, very familiar Fall Color Scene
2014-10-28 - East Guardian at Reed Street, Columbia, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com. It's a splash of orange and gold those of us who frequently take the shortcut from town to the Jamestown Street shops await. It's that time of the afternoon when the trees blazing with new color and the fresh carpet of fallen leaves are still as delightful a part of the scene as when they still held centerstage, and the whole is at peak perfection. - EW

(Ad) Dr. Ben Arnold: Those working in City don't need a 3rd Tax
2014-10-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo Courtesy Arnold Campaign.
I am Dr. Ben Arnold your Write-in Candidate for Mayor of Columbia.
Columbia residents don't deserve double taxation and now with the new payroll tax, those working within the City limits will pay a 3rd tax! This will put the per Columbia resident budget at about $1380/person as compared to Louisville at about $700 per resident.
Comparing the complexities of the two communities, why do we require 2x their tax rate? We can do better than this.
The number and intensities of your communications to me, suggests you the voters believe we can do better also.
I love Columbia. Those are not just words. Some of you know I have committed much time and money to improve out Community. I never planned to run for Mayor. Your responses told me you want our City Government to change and you are looking for someone to carry your messages. I am offering myself up because I can and will lead us to a better place.
I think Adair County and Columbia are one Community. Supporting two separate Governments is creating duplications and lost efficiency for delivery of services. This pushes costs up which get passed down to you the taxpayers. It is time to reduce your taxes and do more with less money. It is just what any businessperson would do. I will reduce your city property tax by 50% the first year. I have studied the budget and we can do this without losing services.
Our location and access to roads are opportunities for Economic Development. I will change the vision for Economic Development. A businessperson presents a Plan for any business project (or for Economic Development), then asks for the money with a budget and what to expect from the success. Government bureaucracies, even little ones, tend to get the money however they can, then look for how to spend it. One is responsible, transparent, and people focused, the other is not. When things don't work, it is time to change them. We have many of our neighbors driving out of town to work. A Frankfort sent company with low paying jobs won't help these workers unless they can support their families. Lets support our local citizens to start business locally and keep the profits locally. Lets work to build Community and economic growth with profits and good jobs both. If you share these beliefs, remember to check the box for Write-in for Mayor and write my last name, Arnold.
"We can do Better"

Paid for by Candidate, Ben Arnold
