Construction on the new canopies for Adair County High School above and Adair County Middle School are progressing at a good pace, Superintendent Alan Reed related in an interview Wednesday following the Tue 28 Oct 2014. The aluminum columns at this stage of construction on Wed 29 Oct 2014, were at a stage which could have been mistaken as the completion of a colonnade, as an architectural accent for the building. But when complete, the stucture will be a long awaited functional bus loading an unloading zone, a four decades old unfinished part of the high school. Nominees for 4th District Fish & Wildlife boad member 2014-10-30 - Green Co. High School, 302 Brummel Avenue Greensburg, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com. Four men received nominations for the 4th District of Kentucky Fish & Wildlife board at Green County High School on Tue 28 Oct 2014. Up to five could have been named for forwarding to Gov. Steve Beshear, who will appoint one nominee to represent the Fourth Wildlife District which includes Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue Marion, Metcalfe, Monoe, Nelson, Taylor and Washington Counties. That choice would then be subject to Senate confirmation. Had over five been nominated in Greensburg, a vote would have been taken to choose the top five. That was unnecessary, but it appeared that over half the crowd was there in support of the first nominee, Barry Stotts of Columbia. Greg K. Paired Photo: See also: The Arnold Building, SW corner of the Square - 29 Oct 2014 The color scheme was quite different for the Southwest Corner of the Square in this favorite old Postcard first posted after being received from Ann Heskamp and posted. 2007-07-15 . "Note cast iron trim on red brick building...probably around 1903." The caption further read, "Approximately one-third of the building on the corner, right hand side of photo, is being remodeled as the "Red Brick Recording Studio" by owner Mike Harris. On the left side of the photo, from left, the then two story Jeffries Building. then the handsome old First National Bank building, then the Reed, later Nell Variety Store. Harris' renovation will break up the monolithic look of the red brick building into what will be three building fronts, which will help avoid the 'dead space' of consolidated, non-retail outlets which suppress traffic. The more small frontages in a stretch, the more traffic, planners say, with the biggest attractants food establishments and small retail. Ideally, many service and professional offices are located upstairs or in the backs of buildings. Casey Norris has been doing most of the painting as the building is transformed. Interestingly, the lower window, for the first in modern memory (modern = since the 1940's; may other can remember earlier) now appears to be part of the Arnold Building. Up close an outline of a door can be seen. That door once led to the Adair County News office, more heard than seen until the News hit the mail routes the middle of each week. It cost a nickel in those days. The sound was the clatter of the Linotype machine run by the late Bill Downs and the rhythmic printing of of sheets of newsprint on a flatbed press. The News still lives, in the words of Richard Phelps, because it is not forgotten. It is kept alive through the work of JIM and Mike Watson, the history brother/cousins, and many others. More recently is has been the home of an art distribution company headed by Billy Joe & Libby Fudge, on the street level, and an art gallery owned by Margaret Arnold on the second story.
