Billy Kingdollar joins Adair Co. Schools Maintenance Department
2014-11-06 - ACHS, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne. Retired CWO3 3 Billy Kingdollar joined the Adair County Schools Maintenance Department this year, and has been a super fit. Billy’s main duties are taking care of all outlying buildings such as the field house, band room, and the new welding facility when completed. But he also filled in where needed. Above, he's installing new stalls at the Adair County High School. - Shamarie Claiborne, Media Promotions Coordinator

Epicurean Kentuckian: Custom Pizza in the building stage
2014-11-06 - 1450 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com. Is it a Farmers Market Pizza or a Salad Pizza, or what? More than one person has created versions since Anderson's Pizzeria started a weekday noon lunch buffet. One EK contributor called it a "Salad Pizza," but Barbara Armitage, the founder of the Adair County Garden Club and Farmers Market on the Square, said, "No, it's a Farmer's Market Pizza." The management says there isn't an official name - yet. The one above is still awaiting diced red onions and a dressing. Barbara Armitage makes hers almost vegan - she does use cheese. Her husband, Wayne, seemed to want a 32 oz Porterhouse Steak on his, not a likely option anytime soon. Anderson's Pizzeria, 1411 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY. Open Tuesday-Thursday 10:30am-9pmCT. Friday-Saturday, 10:30am-10pmCT. Open Sunday 11am-9pmCT. Closed Mondays. Phone 270-384-3333 All major credit cards, Visa, Mastercharge, and Discover, accepted. Election 4 Nov 2014 - Examining write in votes
2014-11-06 - Adair Annex, Suite 1, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com. Elections officials sat in front of a computer screen examining write in votes for PVA and Mayor of Columbia on election night. Seated, from left, are Board of Elections Member Billy Curry, Adair County Court Clerk Joyce Rodgers, and Vicki Hodge at computer. Back row Ben Loy, Board of election member; Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin; and Nadalie Insco. In a county-wide race, Brandon Thompson received 1,994 votes, 36.44% of the votes, and Ben Arnold received 383 votes in the tally, 30.09% of the vote in his candidacy for Mayor of Columbia, giving him second place in the three way race. Glitches in handling write-in vote may have significantly affected vote totals for write-ins, especially in the city, where problems with boundary lines and other procedural and supply concerns are now being reviewed to make sure that they do not happen again.

2014-11-06 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Happy Couple on Election Night Phillip Greer, left, and County Court Clerk-elect Lisa Greer, were elated as the election results poured in Tuesday night, November 4, 2014, at the Adair Annex. Greer took the office, taking 58.89% of the vote, 4,179; to Veronica Mouser's 2,917 votes, 41.11% of the total. The Greers practically made a honeymoon of the campaign, traveling together most of the time, and seemed to enjoy the experience - very much. - photo by Linda Waggener

Favorite Old Photo: Bearwallow Cemetery, ca 1940s
2014-11-06 - Photo from Murrell Burton collection. Murrell Burton of Burton Realty & Auction Co., Columbia, KY, found this photo in his collection which shows a much sparser populated Bearwallow Cemetery than today's. Over the some seven decades since, a lot has changed, but this is one case where an already incredibly beautiful scene is even prettier. The beautiful white frame church the second on the property, has been faced with brick and an impressive steeple, crowned with a cross, has been added, and a fellowship hall has been built behind the church, as well. The church is now part of the United Methodist Church denomination. Comments are welcome. - CM
