There go memories: Old Metcalfe Co. High School 23 Nov 2014

2014-11-24 - East Stockton Street/Glasgow Road, Edmonton, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener MCHS 1966. There go a lot of memories. It's progress, and the new Metcalfe County High School on Randolph Street over peeking over the cedar tree in center right of the frame is facility masterpiece, but for those of use who attended high school at the first Metcalfe County High School, it holds a lot of great memories. The rubble in the center of the photo is the remains of the two story classroom wing. The top level was fairly close to the same level as the standing structure on the left, where the principals office, the cafeteria, and the gymnasium stood. LW. Photo on a gloomy Sun 23 Nov 2014.

Comparative Backporches - and what Jefferson lived without

2014-11-24 - Charlottesville, VA - Photo by Chris Bennett. From our files, a favorite photo (but the caption inspired the reprint) from 2008-09-12 - Monticello at Charlottesville, VA
COMPARATIVE BACKPORCHES 101: "This is a photo of the back of Jefferson's home. I must admit that it is much nicer than my back porch, even though Jefferson's was built over 200 years ago," Chris Bennett writes, but notes some advantages his own back porch has, "In my defense my home has a refrigerator, electric lights, an Apple Computer, a working water closet, with a padded seat, a mail box full of junk mail, and Satellite TV with a DVR. Jefferson didn't have any of this stuff!" - CHRIS BENNETT.
A note: Checking the web one will find several entries for the meaning of the word "Monticello" - it means "Little Mountain." So there must be a bigger one, one would guess. There is, it's hundreds of feet higher and is called "Montalto."
