Knifley Fire Chief C.R. Drakes asks for fees to go on tax bills
2015-04-15 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Knifley Area Fire Department Chief C.R. Drake read from prepared notes as the lead-off presenter requesting that Fire Dues be included on tax bills, and cited statutes which permit them to be included. Fiscal Court approved asking County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin to draft a county ordinance for a 1st Reading, possibly as soon as the regular May 12, 2015 session of Fiscal Court. Breeding Area Fire Department is also requesting the change, which will mean that payment of fire dues will not be a option, but an obligation. Mr. Drake stressed that the dues are "fees," and not a "tax," even though bill would be included on the tax statement.

Adair Fiscal Court, featured players, 14 Apr 2015
2015-04-15 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The Adair Fiscal Court is the latest to structure the hierarchy at meetings, following the example of the Columbia City Council and the Adair County School Board, with top players in an elevated position. It's one of the distinct differences in style brought to county government since the new administration took office. Standing, above, is CJE Mike Stephens. From left, are Magistrates Perry Reeder (4), Sammy Baker (3), Daryl Flatt (2), and Harold Burton (1); Deputy CJE Holly Grimsley; (Stephens); Adair County CFO and session recording secretary Gayle Cowan; County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin; and Magistrates Billy Dean Coffey (5); Greg Caldwell (6); and Terry Hadley (7). The photo was taken at the Tuesday, April 14, 2015, regular session of the Adair Fiscal Court.

Judge Mike Stephens administers oath of office to Mike Keltner
2015-04-15 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Adair County CJE Michael L. Stephens administered the oath of office to Mike Keltner, newly approved as the Adair County Emergency Management Director, succeeding 23 year veteran EMD Greg Thomas, who resigned effective Monday, April 13, 2015. Mr. Thomas will now devote full time as the Adair County 911 Supervisor. The ceremony followed the regular April 14, 2015, session of Adair Fiscal Court. Only a hint of a smile on Mr. Keltner's face gives away the part of the oath being administered. Yes. Citizens of Adair County can be assured that he, like his grandfather Jimmy Firquin former Adair CJE and legendary lawman, has never had anything to do with fighting a duel. For most of April 14, 2015, Keltner's first and only day as acting Emergency Management Director was a busy one, directing activities during a frenetic day of flooding. - EW
