Christmas Lights, 2014: Snowflake over the Adair Courthouse clock

2014-12-13 - 100 Block, Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Christmas snowflake decorations light up Greensburg Street in Columbia. This one gives a special frame for the Historic Adair County Courthouse clock. While waiting for the parade to come down Jamestown Street to the square last week, WHVE radio's Tammy Sexton and I decided to call on all our brothers and sisters in media to work together and alert listeners and readers to a needed fundraing to pay for getting the clock working again. The Adair Heritage Association has gotten prices so now it's just a matter of everyone sending a little money. As readers prepare to make end of year donations to worthy causes this one is at the top for everyone who passes through Columbia and needs to be on time. A lifetime membership in the Adair Heritage Association is only $250 per household. -- Linda Waggener

New, bright double yellow lines make Young Street safer

2014-12-13 - Young Street, Columbia, KY - Photo (c) ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Bright new double yellow lines on newly paved Young Street make it a bit safer for pedestrian and golf cart traffic on the Lindsey Wilson Campus, and may suppress speeding - but 25mph, regardless of what state minimum speeds are written, is unsafe. With Kentuckians tendency to think 9 mph over as the leeway to avoid a ticket, 34 mph, downright dangerous here, is often the norm.
