Vietnam Veterans Day: Three hour long reception

2014-12-17 - Campbellsville Civic Center, 205 N Columbia Avenue, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith.
When I visited the Civic Center for the reception for the Vietnam Veterans, is packed, and the reliable report I have is that the reception lasted around three hours, with veterans coming and going after the parade. For my friend, former Taylor County High School Principal Donald Skaggs, we did the best we could. I didn't post the photo to ColumbiaMagazine.com earlier because I thought, at first, they might not be as good as they should have been. But after 'shocking' them, I think they'll do. Maybe others can send personal photos to add. By the way, I was really impressed by the numbers of veterans from out of town. We're already planning the event to coincide with Veterans Day next year. By the way, until a more official count is in, I'm standing by my Sunday attendance statement. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications

WKU planning Military Student Service Center - at Glasgow

2014-12-17 - Bowling Green, KY - Photo submitted by John Roberts, WKU/Glasgow.
WKU's Big Red poses for a photo with Marines and Army Soldiers from Ft. Knox at the Hooray For Heroes event earlier this year. WKU is planning the opening of another Military Student Services Center. This one will be located on the WKU campus in Glasgow, 500 Hilltopper Way. Meeting 12 Dec 2014 on the WKU campus located in Glasgow, a small band of like-minded representatives of university administrators and area military groups met recently to begin planning for a major new addition to student services offered on this regional campus, located approximately 33 miles from the much larger Bowling Green campus (approximately 35 miles from Columbia, KY - CM) The purpose of the planning meeting is to begin preparing to open a WKU Military Student Services Center on the Glasgow campus soon.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Come in, start eating

2014-12-16 - 212 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo CM photo. The Harvest Cafe opened its soup and salad bar today. It's been something busy people have been asking for all along, especially with short lunch periods and don't have the time to wait. "They just want to come in and eat. We're going to give the choice though, of serving themselves or letting us do it." That's how the customer being served by Tashana Spoon (ACHS 2010) wanted it. She's ladling the customer's choice of the house's signature soup, Cream of Potato, to take to the table. Sit down or self serve, it's all fast service, Chundy said.
