Dog found at IGA now at Green River Animal Shelter

Birds of KY: The Art of Ron Owens - License plate birdhouses

Ron Owens, of Mount Vernon, will demonstrate how he creates birdhouses, like the one above, using recycled wood and license plates 9:30am-2:30pmCT/10:30am-3:30pmCT, Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Kentucky Artisan Center, 200 Artisan Way Berea, KY - just off I-75. A native of Rockcastle County, Owens is a self-taught artisan who has worked with willow and recycled materials for over 20 years. He creates a line of furniture and baskets in an old restored 50- year-old barn and collects and harvests willow trees from local areas. Owens cuts willow branches year round in order to work with it while it is fresh and pliable. His durable willow baskets, also available at the center, are made in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used to hold potted plants, magazines and other items.

Scenic Russell Co., KY: Big Rock Candy City Hall

The Russell Springs Municipal Center, housing City Hall, the Police Department, and Water Commission, is Red, white and green for the holiday season. The handsome, functional building with easy access, is a model of municipal efficiency - it cost a fraction of what other cities have spent, and it was another case where a government unit did the right thing, adaptively re-using an existing building rather than build-on or build anew.

An Angel visits Public Square in Columbia, KY

Sarah Streeval, portraying an Angel in the Bloomington Chapel Live Nativity Scene was one of the first re-enactors to arrive for final scheduled performances, tonight, Sunday, December 21, from 5pm-8pmCT. The weather is great for the performance, and the Square is beautifully decorated. When the photo was taken there was still plenty of room for parking.
