Epicurean Kentuckian: Christmas morning food

2014-12-25 - Photo Ed Waggener.
Even the peasants eat well on Christmas: Christmas morning food included a bit of ham, biscuit, store-bought hash brown potato, red pepper, broccoli, hot black coffee and cinnamon apples in an iron skillet - and a new favorite any meal dessert: Amish canned peaches from South Fork or Black Gnat. - EW

Kentucky Color: Rowetown's Central Park

2014-12-25 - Rowetown, South Adair County, KY - Photo By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester.
This is a view of lush, green, wooded, wintertime meadows in the midst of the Rowetown Community. Although it is often times hard to find a hard and definite line between rural communities, I guess you could say that Rowetown was and is a suburb of Toria. The community once had it's own one room school and a population of hardworking residents who were the epitome of subsistence farmers. - Billy Joe Fudge

Santa must love Clay Ridge Kentucky . . .

2014-12-25 - Clay Ridge, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM .
Santa must love Clay Ridge Kentucky . . . or else he's partial to my Metcalfe County 1966 classmate, Jackie Parson Coffey because she's been a good little girl. Her lifetime collection of Santas brightened our last mini-class reunion at her home this year. - LW

Christmas in Greensburg, KY

2014-12-25 - 107 N Main Street, Greensburg, KY - Photo by Larry Smith.
I have to give my vote to my hometown, Greensburg, KY, for having the outstanding Downtown Lights this year. This is a scene in what was once the fountain in front of the old City Hall, an adaptive re-use of a service station during the administration of a wonderful Green Countian, the late Mayor George Huddleston. The building is still owned by the Ciity of Greensburg, and is officially the George Huddleston Building. It is leased to the Calhoon & Cook Insurance Agency. I think it is amazing when a ccommunity is pro-active in preservation. Instead of building a new building out on the edge of town, re-inovate an existing one. The way Greensburg did with this one, and the successor City Hall, in the old Theiss Chevrolet Building on West Court Street. And, come to think about it, the way Taylor County preserved a beautiful Campbellsville Church for its library, and later, now Mayor Young and the Campbellsville City Council made the building into a Civic Center which is the envy of Kentucky. I just hope that Mayor Hardwick and Judge Executive Mike Stephens will see how this is such a win-win for all the beauttiful downtown buildings in Collumbia. Larry Smith, Operaations Manager, Shoreline Communicaation

Remember? A Christmas Memory from nine years ago

2014-12-25 - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM .
Remember this picture on CM? Who these folks are. From nine years ago. The mother in the photo hasn't changed one iota. But the girl with the million dollar smile has grown into a poised, accomplished rising star. The photo was taken nine years ago - or, more specifically, 36,319 (less maybe 500 or so slots botched and don't count) pictures ago Creating Memories in pictures on CM. Somebody please remember, and write this cutline for us.
