A Pilgrim in Town Creek bank Catalpa
2015-01-01 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo. We noticed this uniquely marked cat passing through our yard today. It found a place 12 feet up in a fallen catalpa for a vantage point to watch for prey, rest, or maybe scan the territory for hostile and friendly inhabitants. We noticed it for the first New Year's Day, 2015, most likely an omen we can't interpret. - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: Ale-8-1
2015-01-01 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen. "Ale-8-One, known colloquially as Ale-8, is a regional ginger and citrus flavored soft drink, distributed primarily to brick and mortar retailers in Kentucky. It is bottled by the Ale-8-One Bottling Company, a family-owned enterprise in the small town of Winchester, Kentucky, near Lexington, where the beverage is especially popular.
Ale-8 could be described as a ginger ale with a "kick". It is a ginger and citrus blend, containing less carbonation, and fewer calories than conventional soda," according to the fascinating Ale-8-One entry in Wikipedia
