At Heartland Parkway Foundation meeting in Lebanon, KY

Dr. John Chowning, founder and chairman of the board of the Heartland Parkway Foundation, left, is pictured above at a meeting of the foundation's board today, Thursday, January 22, 2015, with Adair County Deputy Judge Executive Holly Grimsley. At the meeting, Holly Grimsley was elected Secretary of the Board. She will represent Adair County on on a committee with one representative from each of the four counties. Sue Stivers, representing the C/AC Chamber of Commerce and Lindsey Wilson College attended the meeting with Grimsley. Mayor Curtis Hardwick and County Judge Mike Stephens are ex officio members of the board but were not present today. At the same time as the Foundation the Heartland board was meeting, Judge Mike Stephens and Fifth District Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey were at a meeting of Kentuckians for Better Highways in Lexington, KY.

Columbia singers at MLK Memorial Service, CU

Adair County was well represented at Martin Luther King Memorial Service at Campbellsville University. Yulonda Bradshaw and Ricardo Hughes of Columbia, KY, above provided musical presentations at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. worship service at Campbellsville University Wednesday evening, January 21, 2015. Rev. Lewis Henry, pastor of Santa Fee Missionary Baptist Church, in the Flatwoods of Adair County, and Moderator, Zion District Association of Baptists, gave the closing prayer for the event. Music for the service included the opening anthem, James Weldon Johnson's "Lift every voice and sing," and the closing anthem, "We shall overcome." - LW

CM's Crocus-in-Bloom Watch is stilll on - but Historian/Plant Diarist Mike Watson sent photos on 19 Jan 2015 of these sprouting crocus, and note from his and Renea Watson's memories. He wrote with this photo, " just saw the photos of sprouts from an earlier date. Here are three taken this morning. They have been up several days; Renea says we first talked about them last Saturday week, which would have been January 10th, a bitter cold, windy day." MW
