Epicurean Kentuckian: Salad Bar a hit at Harvest Cafe

2015-01-11 - Harvest Cafe, 212 Public Square, Columbia, kY - Photo CM staff photo.
After a full year of operation under the current management, and several directional changes, Harvest Inn has found a solid niche, offering immediate meals with its soup, and built to taste all you can eat salad bar, along with three minute service on custom made sandwiches. It seems to be one of the things Downtown Columbia was wanting all along. Owner Steve Chundy is very optimistic about 2015. The Downtown Dining scene is already looking good for the coming year. A Mexican restaurant is being readied for opening in a matter of days or weeks, and the anchor restaurant, Moore's Poolroom & lunch is thriving as never before. Who knows? Maybe this is the year for Columbia to get that top floor private club, like the Pendennis, a banquet/theatre/reunion hall on the second floor of the courthouse, that Korean restaurant we're all wanting. That's all CM has on its wish list. Maybe someone else has better ideas for this promising year. - CM

Name that dog. Said to be smartest in KSP Post 15 area

2015-01-10 - ??? - Photo owner.
There are a lot of intelligent dogs in the Kentucky State Police 10 county area of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Russell, Taylor, and Washington Counties. This dog is not only obviously smart - and his owner says he's the smartest of all in the territory and maybe the commonwealth - but he's actually a Celebrity Canine too. Springfield, KY: Mural of President Obama

2015-01-10 - Springfield, KY - Photo by Larry Smith.
This mural honoring President Obama is on one of Downtown Springfield's building. (Someone send me the address). What a difference in the respect due the President who saved the country from financial disaster. In Marion and Washington Counties, the talk is that he will go down as the equal of President Bill Clinton - maybe even surpass him, and that was before President Obama's popularity rose again to over 50%. Up there even compare him to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who is right under Jesus in their esteem. - LARRY SMITH.

Fishing on Dale Hollow in 1950s: Edith & Winfrey Beard

2015-01-10 - Dale Hollow Lake, KY-TN - Photo favorite old photo of Wynn Beard.
My grandparents, Campbellsville, KY's late O.W. (Winfrey) and Edith Chelf Beard (she was the daughter of the kate L.R. & Nettie Spurling Chelf of Knifley, Adair County, KY), aboard their houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake, fishing out of Sunset Dock, July 27, 1950. with a small catch of yellow catfish. Mr. Beard was the owner of Lyon-Beard Chevrolet-Oldsmobile. Billy Joe Breeding, who just passed told me lots of stories about that houseboat; had an inboard Chevrolet engine in it, was built in the parking lot across from the dealership, behind what is now the Water Company on South Columbia avenue. - WYNN BEARD
