Scenic Adair Co., KY: Putman County - it just greens out

2015-03-02 - Putman County, Adair Co. District One, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Searching for winter pictures Saturday, we spotted this double bank of giant draped icicles, the kind which tempt one to stop the car and see what happens when one is pulled down. Fearing possibly lethal consequences, the urge was quelled. The bank is along Sulphur Creek - to the best of our knowledge - and is in the Putman County section of Adair County. The late Renaissance Man, Dr. W.K. Neat, Varmintologist and Man of Science, and well versed in all matters of travel, was once ask to define the limits of the county within a county. "Oh," he said, "you'll know when you get there. It just greens out at you." That's how we found the magical, mythical kingdom of a Saturday, 28 Feb 2015, on a Know Your County Better Tour. It just greened out at us. - EW

A caring mother's/foster mother's eyes

2015-03-01 - Green River Animal Shelter, 455 Appleby Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Kim Sallee, Director, Green River Animal Shelter.
Kim Sallee, Director of the Green River Animal Shelter, says she'll try to keep Adair County aware of a basketful of fuzzball orphan puppies the shelter is taking care of until they are adoptable. For a time, Kim had primary puppy care alone, until the arrival of the wonderful little black dog mother above, who not only tends her natural born baby, but has accepted a foster pup, the little black and white one from the orphan family. Director Sallee has high hopes that by the orphan puppies are weaned and ready for adoption, there will be a waiting list of loving families to give them furever homes, and that the devoted mother and her puppy will have homes, too.

Scenic Casey Co., KY: Snow fog over Green River

2015-03-01 - US 127, 5.64 miles south of Liberty, Casey Co., KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
It a landmark familiar to diners at Bread of Life, 5369 US 127, Liberty, KY, but Sunday it was winter surreal, with snowy fog obscuring the hills beyond Green River. A couple of honkers - Canada Geese - year round residents - and the tree, the neat rows of corn stubble and farm pond can be seen more clearly in the foreground. Oh, and how far is it in time from Liberty: By car a little over five minutes. By float trip down Green River, about five hours, Alan W Reed, who reached this point by boat, remembers. - CM
